From December 1st to 7th, ICON member Tanishta Rajesh attended the 6th Annual Academy of the International Max Planck Research School for Population, Health and Data Science (IMPRS-PHDS). Hosted by the Max Planck Institute for Demographic Research in Rostock, Germany, this event brought together doctoral researchers from across the globe to engage in workshops, scientific discussions, and networking opportunities.
The IMPRS-PHDS is a unique three-year doctoral program that merges demography, epidemiology, and data science. The program equips its students with advanced theoretical knowledge in demography and epidemiology, strong technical skills in statistics, mathematical modeling, and computational methods, as well as extensive interdisciplinary training and networking opportunities.
During the academy, Tanishta presented her ongoing doctoral thesis project, “Families in Flux: The Interplay Between Parental Conditions and Out-of-Home Care Placements of Children in Sweden”. Her research, part of the larger project Drivers of Inequalities Among Families Involved With Child Welfare Services (DRIVERS), uses national register-based data to examine how parental socioeconomic and psychosocial factors influence child placements in out-of-home care and how these placements impact families over time.
The week-long academy included workshops, scientific presentations, and opportunities to connect with researchers from around the world.
