Description

The project aims to systematically evaluate if women’s minority status – on the basis of race/ethnicity, disability, sexual orientation, single motherhood, and body weight – is associated with their experiences of mistreatment and discrimination in maternity care. The project will use Swedish national register and survey data to gain a comprehensive understanding of this topic. The first step is to examine the risk of experiencing mistreatment and discrimination among women of various minority statuses. The second step is to evaluate whether these experiences are modified by different individual, system, and contextual factors. The last step is to use language models and machine learning methods to analyze free text responses in national surveys to assess the manifestations of mistreatment and discrimination. Together with maternity care providers, the project will provide knowledge to facilitate the transformation towards equity in health and health care.
